Welcome!

Welcome to the official website of Boy Scout Troop 642. We are chartered by The Parents of Troop 642. We belong to the Las Colinas District in the Western Los Angeles Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. We draw from a community of boys mostly from Hidden Hills and Calabasas.

We welcome new families to find out about our Troop. Scouting is a year-round program for boys around ages 11 - 17. Through the Boy Scout program, young men can achieve the core objectives of strengthening character, personal fitness, and good citizenship.

This web site has been created to give our scouts, their families, and visitors to our site an idea of what Scouting is all about and to keep them informed of activities of our troop.

Scout Law of the month - COURTEOUS

Posted on Sep 1 2010 - 6:49am

We the members of Troop 642 believe in the Scout Oath and Law. We believe that in the 12 points of the Scout Law people can find the basis from which to make ethical choices over their lifetimes. We believe that if everyone lived their lives striving toward these 12 simple principles, our world would be better for it.

What is COURTEOUS - A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows that using good manners makes it easier for people to get along.

Here are some examples from the scouts

*Being on time for meeting
*Not speaking when others are speaking
*Letting your Patrol Leader know if you are not able to attend a meeting
*Sign up for events BEFORE deadlines

What are some other examples of being COURTEOUS to the troop, your family, your community, etc?

HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

WHERE THE SCOUT LAW CAME FROM????

The Scout Law of the BSA is as old as Scouting itself. It is based on the set of nine laws appearing in Baden-Powell's 1908 book Scouting for Boys that spoke most clearly to Scouts in Great Britain.

Baden-Powell's Original Scout Laws

1. A Scout's honour is to be trusted.
2. A Scout is loyal.
3. A Scout's duty is to be useful and to help others.
4. A Scout is a friend to all, and a brother to every other scout, no matter to what social class the other belongs.
5. A Scout is courteous.
6. A Scout is a friend to animals.
7. A Scout obeys orders.
8. A Scout smiles and whistles.
9. A Scout is thrifty.

Two years later, the Boy Scouts of America published the twelve points of its own Scout Law. Simpler and easier to remember than the Scout Law for British youth, it has given American Boy Scouts guidelines for life that have remained unchanged throughout an entire century.

The vision of the BSA's Scout Law influenced Baden-Powell, too. In 1911 he added a tenth law to the list for British Scouts: "A Scout is clean in thought, word and deed."

For the Boy Scouts of America, the twelve points of the Scout Law have stood the test of time exactly as they were written. They will continue to be a guiding light for generations of Scouts to come.
